NAD⁺

What is NAD⁺?

NAD⁺, an abbreviation for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, acts as a chemical battery for each individual cell that gives you energy. A chemical that is naturally produced within the human body,  NAD⁺ is a required cofactor for Sirtuins, a family of proteins that turn genes on and off every night with the circadian cycle. Sirtuins also turn off inflammatory pathways that cause disease and aging, and turn on genes for making new mitochondria (required for energy).

As we age, experience chronic or acute stress, or abuse substances, our  NAD⁺ production slows which results in loss of energy. Since  NAD⁺ is naturally made within our cells, no absorption system for  NAD⁺ exists in our gut so it must be administered IV.

NAD+ and the Brain

The brain as well as the heart are the main organs that contain cells which cannot make their own NAD⁺. For example, when your immune system fights a viral infection or alcohol is metabolized,  NAD+ is consumed in large quantities, resulting in  NAD⁺ deficiency. This means that the brain cannot regulate genes for alcohol cravings, circadian clocks, and stress response. Similar  NAD⁺ deficiencies occur after DNA damage, such as the damage caused by chemotherapy, or with aging. Because brain cells do not make  NAD⁺, these deficiencies hit the brain the hardest and may trigger headaches, insomnia, stress, and other conditions.

“I believe NAD⁺, administered in therapeutic doses, is one of the most important supplements I have found. It has proven to be life-changing for many of my patients over the last 10 years. I feel fortunate to have been trained by the earliest pioneer
of NAD⁺ administration. The clinical trials I have been involved with have helped with marking out health conditions that would benefit from NAD⁺ treatment.”
